Weather Delays

Jewish High School of Connecticut
School Delay or Closing Procedure

When severe weather is forecast for the JHSC area, we will make every effort to announce a school delay or closing the day before the predicted weather.  In this case, JHSC will notify parents by email and through announcements on News12, News8, CTWeather.com, WICC 600 AM and WEBE 108 FM.  Whenever possible, JHSC will also notify parents by calling and/or leaving a message on the home telephone.

In the event of a delayed opening, the announcement will refer to school opening.  Buses will pick up one hour in advance of the delayed school opening time.

In the event of morning delays due to unpredicted inclement weather causing unanticipated morning delays, JHSC will use the following procedure:

  1. If buses are already en route, JHSC will communicate with our transportation service to learn the status of the buses and will communicate this information to parents by email.

  2. If buses have not yet picked up students, JHSC will notify parents of expected pickup time by email and through announcements on News12, News8, CTWeather.com, WICC 600 AM and WEBE 108 FM.  We will also include this information on our outgoing telephone message.

  3. Whenever possible, JHSC will also notify parents by telephone.

If unexpected severe weather occurs during a school day and a decision is made to close early, JHSC will notify parents by email and through announcements on News12, News8,  CTWeather.com, WICC 600 AM and WEBE 108 FM.  Whenever possible, JHSC will also notify parents by telephone.
