The Academic Program & Daily Schedule: Responding to Each Individual Student
Throughout Jewish history, educators and scholars have recognized that the study of Hebrew language and Jewish text offers a rich complement to the study of math, world literature, history, science, the arts and athletics. Today, college admissions officers understand that the multi-faceted curriculum of a mission-driven Jewish high school offers its students unique preparation for the depth and breadth of courses offered at universities. In the tradition of great Jewish high schools, JHSC will offer a stimulating and rigorous program in general and Jewish studies that cultivates the mind and soul of each student.
JHSC will offer courses ranging from standard college preparatory to advanced placement that serve a diverse student community. An open-minded spirit of intellectual inquiry encouraging students to question, challenge and strive towards realizing their highest potential, will guide learning and teaching at JHSC. Issues of health and wellness will be addressed in the curriculum and student life programming.
Through the academic curriculum students will build knowledge and enhance skills in textual analysis, written and oral communications, logic and critical thinking that will impact all aspects of their intellectual and academic development. We aim for students to develop the capacity and desire for lifelong learning as well as the necessary preparation for college and beyond.
The goals of JHSC are not merely academic, however. During the dynamic and sensitive teenage years, students need a context to present and consider their deepest questions and personal explorations. At JHSC, students will participate in an environment that promotes an open, active and respectful exchange of ideas that enhance initiative, self-esteem and ethical behavior. Study and discussions in and out of the classroom will inform our student’s moral development, strengthen their personal identities and help build strong relationships with the American Jewish community and the land and people of Israel.
